Watching the sunset over the mountains is always a beautiful sight, but riding off into it, while on top of a horse is truly majestic! Horseback riding gives you such a close feeling of being connected to nature and all of its creatures. I hadn’t been on the back of a horse since I was 10 years old, so I was way overdue to get back in the saddle.
I chose Wild West Horseback Adventures because of their positive reviews and professional staff. You can pick from three different trail rides (Breakfast, Lunch, or Sunset Dinner). The most popular and my recommendation is the Sunset Dinner Ride. On this one, you’ll be able to enjoy the natural rugged terrain of the Nevada desert and watch a spectacular sunset that you’ll never forget.
The duration of the tour is approximately five hours and starts with a pickup from your hotel. After about a forty-five minute van ride, you’ll arrive at the ranch and meet your guides. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned rider or have never been on a horse before, they will select one based on your weight and experience to make the perfect fit. Next, you will be taught the fundamentals necessary to command your horse and before you know it, you’ll be on the trail seeing the wild west in the same way as the pioneers, cowboys, and early explorers.
Once you get back to the ranch, the chef will have dinner on the grill. You can choose between steak or chicken and both are served with a baked potato, roll, and corn on the cob. But save some room, because apple pie will soon follow. The night finishes with a demonstration on how to use a lasso. Then you’ll really find out who in the group is a true cowboy.
