Raft Off – Michigan’s Premier Boat Party

Raft Off

Raft Off is an annual Michigan boating event held at Muscamoot Bay on Lake St. Clair. Boaters from all over come try to break the world record for number of boats tied up together. Taking place on the 2nd Saturday in August, it’s also a time when Michigan weather is at its best. This was my third year in a row attending Raft Off and it’s always a BLAST!

Raft Off

The first two years, we took jet skis out to the Bay, which was fun, but the waves getting out there and back made for a really rough ride. This year, a friend of mine bought a boat and a group of us took it out, which was way better. It’s so nice when you have a place for all of your stuff. I also took my drone which allowed me to get some great footage from the air. (Check out the video below) ✌️😎 Spoiler Alert – I lost my drone that day. But luckily someone found it and after two months, I got it back with the memory card and all of its footage intact.

Raft Off

It’s best to get out to the Bay early because boats fill this area really quick. A lot of people even go the day before to get a prime spot. The heart of the party is around the Tiki Barge, so try to tie up somewhere nearby. The boats tied together create a long trail in which people walk back and forth. This is the perfect place for “people watching” and believe me, you will see some pretty interesting characters. The water here is waist deep, so it’s really a perfect location for a boat party. Lot’s of music, sun, and fun with family and friends make it a day to remember and definitely gives true meaning to the Kid Rock song, “All Summer Long.”
