“I’d like to revisit that wine.” That’s the proper way to ask, “Could you please refill my glass?” when wine tasting. I had never heard that phrase before or knew much about the fascinating process of wine production. Having lived just south of San Francisco, I often heard about the beautiful countryside of Napa and Sonoma Valley and certainly wanted to experience them myself by taking a wine tour.
There are a number of options and companies available when booking a wine tour, but I recommend choosing Green Dream Tours. Their guides are friendly and very knowledgable in the production of wine and the whole history of the Napa and Sonoma region. Green Dream Tours offers a few different options, which include touring either Napa or Sonoma, but to get the best of both, take the combo tour. It’s a wonderful way to spend the day and get to experience both beautiful valleys.
The tour starts by being picked up from your hotel in downtown San Francisco. After a quick stop for pictures at an overlook of the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll be off to taste some delicious wines. Located just north of the city, wine country is only about an hour drive. The combo tour takes you to two wineries in Sonoma, a stop for lunch at the gourmet Oxbow Public Market, and then on to a third winery in Napa. You’ll then be returned to your starting point in downtown San Francisco, which is great because you don’t have to worry about driving for the entire day. The total tour is about 7.5 to 8.5 hours. Until you go wine tasting, you don’t fully appreciate just how different wines are from one another. Tasting them side by side will show you the difference between a good wine and a gold medal winner.
