Downtown Segway Tour – Portland, Oregon

segway-tour

The segway is a very neat concept. A two-wheeled, self balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle that looks like it came straight out of the future. I had always wanted to try these machines ever since their release and finally got the opportunity while spending some time in Portland, Oregon.

Nation Tours offers segway tours of beautiful downtown Portland. It’s the perfect way to explore the city!  They operate 5 times daily, 7 days a week. Highlights include riding along the Willamette River, seeing the Steel Bridge, China Town, Portlandia Statue, the Pearl District, and many other great landmarks and attractions. You are also given a very informative narrative along the way of each of these attractions that make Portland the attractive city that it is.

I recommend taking the 2 hour Downtown Historic Tour which starts at 6:30pm. That way you get to enjoy the best of both worlds. You’ll start the tour when it’s still daylight, but continue riding even after the sun sets. Portland at night is definitely something you won’t want to miss. I found the segway very easy to ride and lots of fun! Once you get used to how it maneuvers, you’ll find yourself ziping around like a pro.

When segways first came out, I thought they were going to be the future of transportation. I figured it was just a matter of time before I would see segways rolling up and down city sidewalks across America. Well, it didn’t quite turn out that way or at least not yet anyway. However, you do see them on occasion and when you do, they always seem to draw an eye of fascination.
